Appy Pie: How To Provide Information For Google Play’s Data Safety Section?

The data safety section lets you showcase your app’s key privacy and security practices. Providing the information in the Data Safety section helps people understand what user data your app collects or shares. This information will be shown on your app's store listing to help Google Play users understand how your app collects and shares user data before they download. 

The following steps will help you guide in providing the information for Google Play’s Data Safety section:

1. Go to Google Play Console and sign in to your developer account.
   
   

2. Under the “All apps” section, select the app for which you want to fill out the Data Safety form. 
   
   
   

3. In the side menu, go to Policy and programs and select App content.
   
   
   

4. Under “Data safety”, select Start. 
   
   
   

5. Before filling out the form, read the “Overview” section. Once you’ve finished reading, select Next to move on to the next section.
   
   
   

6. In the “Data collection and security” section, review the list of required user data types that you need to disclose. Select the following responses for the questionnaire:
   
   

   Question	Response
   Does your app collect or share any of the required user data types?	YES
   Is all of the user data collected by your app encrypted in transit?	YES
   Which of the following methods of account creation does your app support? Select all that apply (Optional)	Don’t check any options.

   
   
   
   
7. Once you’ve selected the responses, click Next.
   
   
   
8. In the “Data types” section, under “Location”, select the Approximate location and Precise location checkboxes.
   
   
   
9. In the “Data types” section, scroll down to the Personal Info section, then select the following options:

   1. Name

   2. Email Address

   3. Address

   4. Phone Number  
      
      

   
   
10. Under “Health and fitness”, select the Fitness Info checkbox.
    
    
    
11. Under the “Photos and Videos” section, select both options (Photos and Videos).
    
    
    
12. Under the “Audio files” section, select Voice or sound recordings option.
    
    
    
13. Under the “Files and docs” section, select the Files and docs option.
    
    
    
14. Under the “Calendar” section, select the Calendar events option.
    
    
    
15. If the application includes a Messenger feature, then check the Contact checkbox. Otherwise, keep it unchecked under the Contacts section.
    
    
    
16. Under “App Activity”, select the App Interactions option.
    
    
    
17. Under “Web Browsing”, keep the web browsing history option unselected.
    
    
18. Under “App info and performance”, select  Crash logs & Other app performance data options.
    
    
    
19. Under “Device or other IDs”, select the Device or other IDs option.
    
    
    
20. Once you’ve provided the required details, click Next.
    
    
    
21. Based on your selected data types, you need to provide the data usage & handling for each option 
    sequentially. First is the Personal Info section.In the “Personal Info section”, click the right arrow in the Name data type row
    
    
    
22. Select the “Collected” option for the “Is this data collected, shared, or both?”question.
    
    
    
23. After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save

    Note: Once you’ve provided the required info for the selected data type, you will see the Completed status.
    
    
    
24. Perform the same steps 22 and 23 for other data types, including email address, address, and phone number to complete the Personal Info section.
    
    
25. Go to the Location section and click Show.
    
    
    
26. Click the right arrow next to the Approximate location data type, then select the “Collected” option for the “Is this data collected, shared, or both?” question.
    
    
    
    
27. After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save.

29. Go to the Photos and Videos section and click Show.
    
    
    
30. Click the right arrow next to the Photos data type, then select the “Collected” option for the “Is this data collected, shared, or both?” question.
    
    
    
    
31.  After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save

34. Click the right arrow next to the Voice or sound recordings data type, then select the “Collected” option for the “Is this data collected, shared, or both?” question.
    
    
    
    

35.  After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save.

48. After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save.

53. Click the right arrow next to the Device or other IDs data type, then select the “Collected” option for the “Is this data collected, shared, or both?” question.
    
    
    

54. After you have selected the “Collected” checkbox, select the following checkboxes for the respective questions as per the table given below and click Save.

55. Once you’ve answered all the questions in the respective section, click Next to move to the next section.
    
    
    
    

56. After answering all questions, the "Store listing preview" section will preview the information that will be shown to users on Google Play based on the form answers you've provided. Review this information and click Save.
